No Everest for Satono Glow
Trainer John O'Shea has revealed plans to run brilliant filly Satono Glow (NZ) (Satono Aladdin) in The Everest and at Royal Ascot – but not this season.
O'Shea was recently approached by slot-holders to run Satono Glow in The Everest at Royal Randwick next Saturday but felt she wasn't ready for the feature sprint.
"We had interest from one slot-holder,'' O'Shea confirmed.
"I sort of respectfully said it is just not her time but hopefully they will keep us in consideration for next year when she is a little bit more seasoned and it will be time to try her in The Everest.''
Satono Glow gave an exciting demonstration of her emerging sprinting talents with a powerful win in the Roman Consul Stakes at Rosehill yesterday.
She was having only her five career starts, recording her fourth win - and arguably she should be unbeaten – which has her high profile syndicate of owners dreaming of Royal Ascot.
"Satono Glow will definitely go there (Royal Ascot) but whether it is this season, I'd be more inclined to go the following year (2028),'' said O'Shea, who trains in partnership with Tom Charlton.
"We want to have a crack at The Everest next year and give her every opportunity to run well in it.
"But all the connections (owners) are keen to get to Royal Ascot because of her propensity to run well down the straight and their 'connection' to that meeting.
"When you have a filly that is well placed in that respect then it is something we will always have on our agenda."
O'Shea and Charlton seemed the least surprised by Satono Glow's outstanding Rosehill win which proved the filly is right on target for the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington later this month.
"We have been very bullish about her,'' O'Shea said. "She is such a relaxed, calm customer herself.
"Everything had gone well and we just needed to get the map right in the run and the way Zac (Lloyd, jockey) is seeing them at the moment, we were confident he could do that, too.
"We have the utmost faith in her and she is repaying us at the moment. She has pulled up well and we look forward to three weeks time and getting her back to Flemington where we know she loves the straight.''
