Tendon injury sidelines Rise At Dawn
New Zealand-bred galloper Rise At Dawn (NZ) (Almanzor) has been ruled out of the spring after suffering a bowed tendon.
The Lindsay Park-trained six-year-old had made an encouraging start to his latest preparation, finishing runner-up in both of his appearances.
The tendon injury is a significant setback for a gelding who has been an outstanding performer for the Lindsay Park stable of Ben, Will and JD Hayes.
Rise At Dawn has won eight races and more than A$1.1 million in prizemoney, with his career highlights including victories in the Listed Heatherlie Handicap (1700m) at Caulfield and Listed The Elms Handicap (1400m) at Flemington. His Elms victory came first-up in February last year and extended a winning sequence to four.
Bred by the Smithies family’s Monovale Holdings, Rise At Dawn was bought by Lindsay Park for A$90,000 at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. He is out of the Listed-winning and multiple Group One-placed mare Kay’s Awake (NZ) (Towkay)
