Spring over for Mr Brightside
Veteran weight-for-age galloper Mr Brightside won’t race again this spring, with co-trainer JD Hayes confirming he’s now being reset for the autumn.
The 10-time Group 1 winner was amongst the nominations for Saturday’s Group 2 Kia Ora Stud Mile at Flemington but wasn’t in the final field when the acceptances came through on Wednesday morning.
Mr Brightside came into the Spring Carnival on the back of a nine-month injury enforced absence and produced a huge first-up run to finish second in the G1 Memsie Stakes behind Beiwacht.
However, the Lindsay Park flagbearer was then unplaced at his next two runs in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes and G2 Feehan Stakes respectively and performed below expectations in a jumpout at Flemington last Friday.
A nine-year-old gelding, Mr Brightside has won 20 of his 51 career starts and has earned in excess of $19 million in prizemoney over the course of his career.
