Talented steeplechaser Smug (NZ) (Complacent) will be out for redemption at Trentham on Thursday when he contests the 139th running of the Grant Plumbing Wellington Steeplechase (4900m). The Chris Wood-trained gelding emerged on the scene when first past the post in the maiden steeplechase at this meeting last year,
Royal Valour (NZ) (Belardo) gave a brave account of himself in last year’s Gr.3 Winter Cup (1600m) and is on track for a second tilt at the Riccarton feature. That plan will gain further momentum with another strong performance from the son of Belardo on his home track

Hilal has made an encouraging start to his stud career, with the Grangewilliam Stud stallion producing a strong result from limited representation at last week's New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling Sale. The first-season sire was represented by a colt out of the placed Pierro mare Drama Series,
