Bring Forth goes back-to-back
New Zealand-bred four-year-old Bring Forth (NZ) (Turn Me Loose) headed to Caulfield on Saturday with a last-start Adelaide victory under his belt, and he went back-to-back with a strong front-running performance in the A$130,000 National Make Good Solutions Handicap (2000m).
It was the fourth win of a 17-start career overall for Bring Forth, who has placed on another nine occasions and has earned A$257,390. Bring Forth was offered by Windsor Park Stud in Book 1 of Karaka 2023, where Mick Price Racing and Breeding bought him for $150,000.
A four-length winner of a Benchmark 78 handicap over 2294m at Morphettville in his last start on March 21, Bring Forth took a slight step down in class and distance for Saturday’s 2000m Benchmark 74. That brought an increase in weight to 60.5kg, which was eased by apprentice jockey Molly Bourke’s 2kg claim. He also had to jump from the outside gate in a field of 10.
Bourke allowed Bring Forth to stride forward from that wide gate, taking the lead within the first 300m of the race and moving across to the rail. Bring Forth was able to dominate the race from there, and he kicked away at the top of the straight and held on strongly to win by half a length from Aura (All Too Hard) and Merchant Flyer (Merchant Navy) in a time of 2:02.63.
“Thanks to his trainers, Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr,” Bourke said. “I’ve done a bit of work with this horse at home and I’m thankful for this opportunity today.
“They’ve got this horse so well. The times he’s running and still being able to kick off that in the straight, it’s quite impressive. Even after the post, he still wanted to go.
“So I was very impressed with him today. It was a strong win.”
Mick Price is pleased with the progress Bring Forth is making.
“He ran some quick sectionals early, got a bit of a mid-race breather, and then Molly still had enough horse left in the straight to kick away,” he said. “We’ll just continue to try to place him to advantage in these Benchmark races for now, but I’m sure he’ll become an open handicapper in time, and he stays 2400m.”
Bring Forth was bred by Graeme and Gwenda Hewson, who have retained a share in the ownership. The gelding is by Turn Me Loose out of the Hewsons’ Darci Brahma mare Deedee Panache (NZ), who herself won two races and placed in the Listed NZB Insurance Stakes (1600m).
Both of Deedee Panache’s foals to race have been four-time winners – Bring Forth and his older half-brother, the Charm Spirit gelding Lord Weyburn (NZ) (Charm Spirit)
Since Bring Forth was foaled in the spring of 2021, Deedee Panache has produced an unraced three-year-old filly Millie Grams (NZ) (by Circus Maximus), a yearling colt by Profondo, and a weanling filly by Profondo. She was served by Paddington last spring.
