Another win Won't Hurt for Foxton gelding
Foxton gelding Another Won’t Hurt has booked his ferry trip across the Cook Strait for next month’s Grand National Festival of Racing at Riccarton following his victory in the Vets On Riverbank Raukawa Cup (2100m) at Otaki on Friday.
Trainer Adam Scott had been eyeing the Gr.3 Winning Edge Presentations 129th Winter Cup (1600m) with his gelding, and while that race is now off the cards, he is still intent on heading south with Another Won’t Hurt.
“I was aiming him for the Winter Cup this prep, I know it is a bit farfetched, but I think there is a (rating) 75 2000m for him on the last day down at National Week and he has paid for a hell of a week,” Scott said.
Scott will head south in high spirits following Another Won’t Hurt’s Matariki Day victory, which was a sentimental win for the Horowhenua horseman, who recorded his first training success with the son of Turn Me Loose.
“It’s a defining moment for him and I, so I am stoked to get it,” Scott said.
“I think a lot of him. I got him for free because he was very problematic early and that is why he has only had his 10th start as a six-year-old, but he has come a long way.”
Jockey Kelly Myers also thinks highly of Another Won’t Hurt and she believes he has a bright future as a stayer.
“I have ridden him this campaign and he has really impressed me, he is a lovely big horse, and he will just stay all day,” she said. “I think he is quite a progressive horse.
“The track was very testing and I still couldn’t pull him up, it took me well into the back straight to be able to pull him up.
“A credit to Adam, he has done a super job with him and I was really happy to get the ride.”
