Catalogue Online for National Weanling Sale

The countdown to NZB’s 2026 National Weanling Sale is underway, with a high quality catalogue of 140 youngsters by New Zealand’s best stallions now available to view online at nzb.co.nz, with physical copies arriving in mailboxes soon.

Set to be held on Thursday 25 June at Karaka, the Sale offers an abundance of opportunities for both pinhookers and end users to secure commercial and racing stock, with the session a proven source of racetrack and investment success.

Buyers will have the opportunity to secure progeny of established and emerging sires Savabeel, Proisir, Super Seth, Sword of State, Almanzor, Ace High, Per Incanto, and Satono Aladdin to name just a few.

“The catalogue features the same commercial quality you would expect at the National Yearling Sale, which provides a fantastic opportunity for pinhookers and investors,” commented NZB Bloodstock Sales manager Kane Jones.

"There are a number of high-profile sires featured which is a huge drawcard, as well as a first glimpse of progeny by first season sires Chaldean, Hilal, Mr Mozart and Paddington.

“We’ve been supported by a number of leading vendors and top New Zealand breeders, with a rare chance to buy into Karaka-quality weanlings.

All weanlings offered are eligible to be nominated for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Millions Series featuring the TAB Karaka Millions 2YO (1200m) and the TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m).

Weanlings entered in the Sale will be available for inspections at the on-farm parades, due to take place in early June, and on-site at Karaka Sales Centre, with NZB agents available to inspect on behalf of buyers. Schedule available soon.

The moment Maher knew Pride Of Jenni was on

It took Ciaron Maher only seconds to know Pride Of Jenni (Pride Of Dubai) was back to her best in last weekend’s Gr.2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m), with the champion trainer now setting his sights on the Gr.1 Doomben Cup (2000m).

The iron mare registered her first win of the campaign in the Hollindale Stakes, beating a classy field in her customary front-running style under a perfectly judged ride from Declan Bates.

And according to Maher, it did not take long after the gates opened to realise the mare was on song.

“I was rapt from the first stride, really — she just bounced into the bridle and I thought, ‘Well, we’re on today,’” Maher said.

“And Dec, as he does, got the fractions pretty right, and it was all smooth sailing. It was good to see her back to her best.

“She presented in great order and she had a few things in her favour. A good track on the Gold Coast, and she was on. When she’s like that, she’s hard to beat.

“It seems the more doubters she has, the better she goes.”

The Gr.1 Doomben Cup is now her remaining target this winter, and Maher said he would look to keep her relatively fresh in the lead-up — a formula that has worked well of late.

“She doesn’t have to do much, it’s only a shorter turnaround,” he said.
