A gallop at Taupo on Wednesday has kept Gr.1 Sydney Cup (3200m) placegetter Charles Road up to the mark for a return to racing at Te Rapa next weekend.
With this week’s Te Teko trials postponed, the connections of Charles Road opted to use the trip to Taupo to help round the five-year-old off for the Gr.2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate (1200m).
“He worked with a mate and did all that we expected,” co-trainer Lance O’Sullivan said.
“I’m very pleased with him and it’s just a case of getting the mileage into him.
“You can’t expect him to be competitive over 1200m, but he’s coming up well.”
The winner of the Gr.2 Chairman Handicap (2600m) in Sydney and third in the Sydney Cup, Charles Road is among the entries for the A$7.3 million Gr.1 Lexus Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 6
