Ali Baba may not fully realise his potential on the flat, but there are high hopes for him over fences.

“We want to give him one jumping start before the end of the winter, I think he’s pretty special as a jumper,” co-trainer Pam Gerard said.

Ali Baba has won all three of his races on his home track at Matamata, the latest of them on Wednesday when he streeted his Rating 70 rivals over 2000m.

“He’s been a good horse in the past and the jumping has brought him back,” Gerard said. “He’s been a hard horse to get to settle and going over more ground has helped him with that and his breathing.”
