Ex-pat Kiwi trainer Chris Waller will be out to break his own records on Saturday and a pair of New Zealand bred mares are strong chances to assist the cause.
Waller has already trained 167 Sydney winners for the season and needs three more wins to break the all-time record of 169 winners he set in 2015-16.
Waikato Stud-bred and owned mare So Splendid is a strong fancy in the #THERACES Handicap (1500m), while Dagny, a daughter of Darci Brahma, will start favourite in the Kensei Handicap (2000m).
“So Splendid is a good mare,” Waller said. “She just missed out narrowly on one of the carnival days at Flemington back in November and she will go well fresh.
“Dagny is flying. It’s not the best draw (9) for her but I think the extra two hundred metres is a big plus. Although she has never run over 2000m before, she is two from two over 1800m and she’s as fit as we can get her.”
