New Zealand Bloodstock chairman Joe Walls has been made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
His services to the thoroughbred industry were acknowledged in the Queen’s Birthday honours list.
“When I got the note, I sort of thought there must be other people who have made greater contributions than me,” Walls said.
“I'm a bit flattered that they picked me. It was nice that I got that sort of recognition.”
Walls began selling yearlings at Trentham before the National Sale was relocated to Karaka in 1988 and retired from auctioneering in 2017.
